The Bridal Appointment: What to Expect

  1. How many dresses should I try on during each appointment?

When it comes to trying on dresses, less is often more! Aim to try on about 5 to 10 dresses per appointment. This allows you to explore different styles without feeling overwhelmed. Your consultant will help narrow down your choices based on your preferences and feedback, making the process smoother and more enjoyable. Remember, sometimes you’ll find "the one" sooner than expected, so keep an open mind and have fun!

  1. What are trunk shows and sample sales? Should I attend them?

Trunk shows and sample sales are exciting events in the bridal world! Trunk shows feature a designer’s latest collection for a limited time, often including dresses not usually available in-store. This is a great opportunity to see exclusive designs and possibly meet the designer. Sample sales offer significant discounts on gowns that have been tried on in the store. These sales can be a fantastic way to get a designer dress at a lower price, but sizes and styles may be limited. If you’re flexible and love a good deal, attending these events is definitely worth it!

  1. Can I bustle a gown?

Yes, you can definitely bustle a gown! This is typically done during the alterations process and is essential for managing the length of your dress, especially for the reception when you want to dance and move around easily. Make sure to bring your wedding heels to the fitting, as the bustle needs to be adjusted to the correct length with your shoes on. You can have this done at an alterations place, or ask your bridal boutique or designer if they offer bustling services. Having your heels with you ensures that the bustle is perfectly tailored to your height, making it easier to move around comfortably on your big day.

  1. What if I’m planning on losing weight?

First of all, remember that you are beautiful just as you are, and you shouldn’t feel pressured to lose weight! However, if you're planning on losing weight before your wedding, it's essential to be transparent with your stylist from the start. Let them know about your goals so they can help guide you to a dress that will work for you both now and after you reach your target. It’s still best to book your appointment 6 to 12 months in advance to ensure you have plenty of options and time for alterations.

Most boutiques will schedule a fitting 4 to 5 months before your wedding date. By this time, you may have achieved some of your weight loss goals, making it easier to alter the dress down a size or two rather than making drastic changes from your initial appointment 9 months ago. Each boutique may have different policies, so be sure to discuss your plans with them to ensure a smooth and stress-free process.

  1. What if I don’t find my dress on the first appointment?

Don’t worry if you don’t find your dream dress on the first try! It’s completely normal. Use your first appointment to discover what styles and silhouettes you like and don’t like. Take notes and photos to compare later. Keep an open mind and book another appointment if needed. Sometimes it takes a few visits to find “the one,” and that’s perfectly okay. The right dress is out there waiting for you!

  1. How do I know it’s the one?

You’ll know it’s “the one” when you feel an emotional connection to the dress. It’s the gown that makes you light up when you see yourself in the mirror and imagine walking down the aisle. Pay attention to how you feel—do you feel confident, beautiful, and like a bride? That’s a great sign! Sometimes, happy tears or big smiles from your entourage can also be a clue. Trust your instincts and enjoy the magical moment of finding your perfect dress.
